A touching letter from the parents to the faculty of Trent University during the time of the Covid-19 epidemic!
As COVID-19 epidemic outbreak greatly devastated the world, the relationship between the school and its students no longer just a responsibility but has become similar to the affection that family members share with each other. Let's read this emotional letter which a father sent to the faculty of where his daughter is studying
"Dear Principal, teachers and staffs of Trent University,
My daughter Ziyi Li is a nursing student at Trent. I am her father and my name is Min Li. At this moment, although I am at home in China thousands of miles away, I always care about Ziyi on the other side of the ocean. There is an old saying in China, "A mother will always worry about her child's trip, however long and far it is" (although I am a father, my emotions are exactly the same). Since my daughter went to Canada to study in September last year, we had started to pay attention to many aspects of Canada, especially Peterborough. For example, history, eating habits, climate and so on.
Our family is living in Hainan, a beautiful tropical island in southern China. There is no record of snowfall on this island since the written record. So when Ziyi saw the heavy snow on Trent campus for the first time last November, she was really excited and took a lot of photos to share with us. I and my wife, Lihua Wu, and our son who was seven years old were shocked by this gorgeous view. One of the photos that impressed us the most was a line of the footprint of squirrels in the thick snowdrift.
Before the university started in early September last year, I accompanied my daughter to Canada to visit this beautiful campus and to experience the Peterborough lifestyle for a week. We went to many wonderful places at that time. Such as the Riverview Park & Zoo, the downtown area near the terminus, and the famous Tim Hortons. Just like this, I and Ziyi just fell in love with this quiet and friendly city. Within that week, I almost went to every corner of the Trent campus. I had visited the Bata Library several times, as well as the Student Center. Enjoying the coffee from Starbucks and watching those enthusiastic young adults talking and laughing around me pulled me back to my school time. Until now, until this moment, when I think about Peterborough and Trent, my heart is full of happiness and warmness.
Around a week ago, as the COVID-19 epidemic spread to Peterborough, Ziyi told us the school would be closed and lectures would be changed to online classes. Meanwhile, students in residences needed to move out. Since she was all alone in Canada, I and Lihua were very worried about her.
Unexpectedly, Ziyi was very excited to inform us that the school would help to provide places and necessities for students who were unable to go home. Ziyi also said, at this special time, the warm-hearted help from Trent University made her feel the family-like warmth, and it was the main reason for her to maintain a relaxed and happy mood. After hearing this news, I and Lihua were both deeply touched. We sincerely thank Trent University for providing help to our daughter. I believe that we will be able to overcome this special time together!
Our family is planning to visit Canada this summer. Our son is, even more, looking forward to walking with his sister on the gorgeous campus of Trent University and along the Otonabee riverside. In the meantime, I am also looking forward to having a cup of coffee with my wife at Tim Hortons! We believe that this day will come soon! At last, our family once again sincerely thank Trent University!
