TTU’s campus is surrounded by lakes, state parks, mountains and rivers in one of the most ecologically diverse climates in the nation. With the many lakes, rivers and streams located in Tennessee, many compare our waterways to the “Amazon of the Southern US”.
Tennessee is famous for the various lakes, as the Tennessee Valley Authority was created in the 1940s which built dams all over the region and as a result created hundreds of lakes. Waterfalls are everywhere in the State. The region is also home to the Supercomputer at the Watts Bar Y-12 Nuclear Power Plant and the Oak Ridge National Lab.
