Scholarship opportunity up to 100% from one of the top research universities in the US
The University of Kentucky (UK) is the flagship university of the state of Kentucky. A leading public research university that is nationally and internationally ranked in a number of programs, UK is on an exciting path—one that’s conducting groundbreaking research in areas such as energy, the environment, and cancer—yet remains one of the most affordable major universities in the United States.
We know that safety is one of the first things on your mind as you consider college decisions. Our university is located in the beautiful city of Lexington, KY, which is ranked # 3 Safest Metro Area in the United States. This friendly, active city with a diverse international community has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Places to Live in America. Within the community, UK takes its role as a policy and health care leader seriously, not only for our students but also within the wider community. The UK College of Medicine has formed a new task force as part of the global effort to battle COVID-19, from advising on patient care to research on potential treatment options. UK has also been active in stepping up the manufacture of hand sanitizer for health care providers within the state.
Research is at the heart of UK’s teachings, addressing key challenges in areas like health and quality of life. With over 200 academic programs throughout our different colleges, we offer majors to suit any interest. Engineering, healthcare professions, business/management, and psychology are among some of our most highly-rated and popular majors. In healthcare professions, for example, students can study pre-med, pre-dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and public health. Because we have graduate programs in all of those areas right on campus, this means that our undergraduates have amazing opportunities to volunteer, do internships, and find on-campus jobs that are key components in advancing their careers and helping them get accepted to medical school or other graduate programs. Tran Nguyen, currently a junior, explains that “I chose pharmacy as my future career and decided to attend UK because of its prestigious College of Pharmacy.” Tran spent several years volunteering and working at the UK Healthcare Transplant Clinic and has just been accepted to begin work on her doctoral degree in Pharmacy at University of Kentucky, ranked #6 in the U.S., in Fall 2020.
Because UK is a hub of world-class academics, we are able to offer our undergraduates many opportunities to become involved with research no matter their field of study. We have a dedicated Office of Undergraduate Research that provides coordination, leadership, and support for all research endeavors. Many of our students in a wide variety of majors also complete internships or co-ops that help them gain real-world work experience and make them more competitive job candidates after they graduate. Professional career counselors are available to all of our students through the Stuckert Career Center as they explore internships and, later, their job search. Throughout both the fall and spring semesters, UK brings potential employers to campus in the form of internship and job fairs, so students have the opportunity to interview right from UK campus.
We know that scholarship opportunities play an important role in college decisions. At UK, we have several scholarship opportunities for both incoming freshmen and transfer students. And yes, it is possible to receive more than one scholarship; all three of our scholarship opportunities can, in fact, add up to a full tuition scholarship! Our International Ambassador Scholarship is a program that is very unique to UK; our International Ambassadors work with the International Center and are available to answer any questions prospective students may have about life as a UK student, academics, housing, etc. as well as share what it’s like to live in the welcoming city of Lexington, KY. This scholarship alone can be up to 50% of tuition.

We realize that this is an uncertain time for many students and their families; schools have shut down in-person classes, methods of instruction have shifted to online, and plans have been disrupted. We are determined to keep all of our current and prospective students up-to-date on any information that will inform college application and admissions decisions. Because many students currently face extended visa wait times, travel restrictions, and/or financial hardship, we have taken several measures designed to ease their path to enrollment. First, we have extended the admitted student confirmation date to June 1. Moreover, all applicants admitted to the University of Kentucky for the Fall 2020 semester will be able to defer their admission and scholarships to the Spring 2021 or Fall 2021 semester. Kentucky’s quick response to the coronavirus has, in fact, led to national recognition for its effective efforts to stop spread within the state, keeping infection rates much lower than neighboring states. In a recent U.S. News and World Report poll, Kentucky took the number one spot in the whole country for satisfaction with the local government’s response and actions to limit spread and keep Kentuckians safe.
